Frequently Asked Questions

How does DSU Study Buddy Club Help?
The DSU Study Buddy Club helps you study by:

  • Being in the correct environment, which helps you focus.
  • Studying quietly with others who are studying.
  • Including regular breaks via the pomodoro technique.
  • Knowing snacks & beverages will be available.
  • Minimizing distractions.
  • Remembering it takes time to understand your course material; attend our study sessions for that opportunity!

Are you for tutoring or homework help?
No, the DSU Study Buddy Club is not for tutoring. If you need help or tutoring, please go to the Douglas College Learning Centre, which provides free tutoring. Book an appointment here: https://douglas.mywconline.com/ . If need be, register first using the same login and password as your Blackboard and College Network Access (CNA). Or, find out more information about the Learning Centre here: https://library.douglascollege.ca/learningcentre.

Club Purpose
To encourage students to study and form a study habit by offering regularly recurring study sessions. Our goal is to provide a space where students can quietly study together, thereby encouraging studying. Remember, it takes time to understand your course material! Give yourself the best chance to succeed – make a habit of studying by attending our study sessions 😄.

How it Works:
Our Study Sessions are quiet study sessions using the pomodoro technique! For every hour of study session, there will be 45 minutes of quiet study and 15 minutes of break. Social Gatherings occur monthly and are solely for socializing, as a reward for studying during the month! There will be lots of fun activities, some snacks provided by the club, and possibly rewards & awards!

Study Sessions Versus Social Gatherings

Study Sessions:
Study Sessions are held every single Tuesday through Friday of Summer 2025 semester starting at 9AM; you are invited to attend as many as you can to form a study habit.

Social Gathering Events:
Social Gatherings are the monthly social events that the Study Buddy Club hosts as a reward for you studying all month! It includes snacks & beverages, awards for participating in study sessions, a forum for member feedback about the club, as well as fun games and the chance to socialize!
