The purpose of the DSU Debate Club is to:
- Foster an environment where students can engage in constructive and respectful debates on a wide range of topics
- Help students to develop public speaking, research, and argumentation skills through regular practice sessions
- Host weekly discussions, workshops, and competitions
The club serves as a supportive community where individuals can overcome stage fright (comfort zone) and develop self-assurance in expressing their ideas, we aim to actively collaborate with well-known organizations specializing in debate. Our members can engage with seasoned debaters, and attend exclusive workshops conducted by experts in the field. This collaboration not only enriches the learning experience but also provides a pathway for members to connect with a broader network of debate enthusiasts beyond the Douglas College community.
Club executives are:
- Sophie Hoang: President
- Kiarad Sheikheh Najafabady: Vice-President
- Shivam Bhardwaj: Treasurer
