Every academic year beginning in September, the Douglas Students’ Union publishes the DSU Handbook & Dayplanner completely FREE for students! Keep track of your schedule, homework, assignments and commitments with the weekly and monthly calendar.

This planner is designed by students, for students, packed with essential campus info, academic resources, and wellness tips to help you thrive throughout the year. Whether you’re tracking assignments, planning your week, or just trying to remember what day it is (we’ve all been there), this handbook’s got your back.

HANDBOOK COVER ART CONTEST!

HANDBOOK COVER ART CONTEST! 〰️

    • Candidates must be current Douglas Students’ Union members, attending classes part-time or full-time in the winter 2026 semester.  

    • Submissions are to be submitted via email, in both the original format and a high quality file as PNG. and EPS. and AI. Files 

    • Design must be vertical mimicking the style of a book cover. 

    • Design dimensions are: 5.25 in x 8.1875 in 

      • To ensure content is safe from the edges and binding, main content should be kept away from the edges and centered between the left side binding and the right side of the page. Here are the size guidelines: 

        • Top, bottom, and outer side are all 0.1875” 

        • Binding side is 0.375” (Left side) 

        • Bleed and crops on all sides is 0.125. 

    • The piece must follow the general theme of a visual representation of the diverse student body of the Douglas College campuses. 

    • Design must contain the text “Douglas Students’ Union Handbook 2026-2027", “DSU Handbook 2020-2027" and. “BCFS Local 6” or leave adequate empty space on the canvas to add this text.  

      • The design can also include the DSU logo. If interested in adding the logo, please email communications@thedsu.ca for access to the logo files.  

      • The Douglas Students’ Union reserves the right to make minor text modifications, as per our branding guide and requirements.  

    • All parts of the handbook cover design must be original work of the submitting student or be assets that are public domain or under a fair use creative commons license that have been used in a transformative manner. 

      • The use of generative AI in any part of the piece is not allowed, and pieces containing AI generated assets will be disqualified. 

    • The winning candidate will receive monetary compensation for their design of $300 CAD. 

    • Candidates will retain ownership rights to artwork submitted, and agree to have their work used as a cover and used in promotional material of The Douglas Students’ Union.  

    • If selected, the Students’ Union may be asked for size, format, and other small edits, which will be communicated via email.
