DOUGLAS STUDENTS’ UNION STATEMENT – IN SUPPORT OF JUSTICE, EQUITY, DIVERSITY, AND INCLUSION

The Douglas Students’ Union stands in solidarity against racism, discrimination, violence and hatred.

We stand in support for all those who have and continue to face discrimination due to sex, race, colour, ancestry, place of origin, political belief, religion, marital status, family status, age, physical or mental disability, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, or a criminal conviction. We commit to dismantling the systems that oppress and hold up discrimination.

We acknowledge that Canada is not exempt from the history of and continued, on-going violence. Canada’s current colonial system is also built on a foundation of systemic racism and violence against the Indigenous Peoples of this land that we occupy.

We denounce any action that diminishes the integrity and human rights of any person, and will always advocate to protect and preserve the rights of vulnerable members in our community and society.

We continue to work diligently to remove barriers wherever possible and are committed to on-going education for all our members.

We stand against racism, discriminatory, violence and hatred. Everyone deserves the right to live in a world without fear of persecution, violence, and hatred.

We stand together.
