National Indigenous Peoples Day is dedicated to recognizing, celebrating and honouring the unique heritage and diverse cultures of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples. Occurring annually on June 21st, this date was intentionally chosen due to its alignment with summer solstice, known as the longest day of the year, and its cultural significance to many Indigenous Peoples.

YINTAH follows Howilhkat Freda Huson and Sleydo’ Molly Wickham during the years-long campaign of violence, harassment, discrimination, and dispossession perpetrated against the Indigenous Wet’suwet’en resisting the construction of Coastal GasLink (CGL) liquified natural gas pipeline through their unceded ancestral territory without their free, prior and informed consent.

Enjoy cultural performances including dancing, singing, and drumming as we honour and celebrate the rich history, resilience, diversity, and achievements of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples across Canada. The Celebration of National Indigeous Peoples Day will also include a learn-to-dance session and an activity inspired by the Japanese art of rock wrapping. Led by PoMoArts, participants will wrap heart strings of intention, remembrance, healing, and hope around a rock as a symbol of the journey of reconciliation. Bannock bites will be available at the conclusion of the celebration at 3pm. All activities are free.
