Students in British Columbia joined the fight to remove financial barriers to accessing contraception. The BCFS ratified its support for the AccessBC campaign, officially endorsing it during the BCFS 82nd Semi Annual General meeting on July 17, 2022, calling on the provincial government to fulfill their electoral promise and make all prescription contraception free.
On February 28, 2023, the BC Government announced that the 2023 provincial budget would include $119 million over three years to fund free prescription contraception across the province!
Since April 1, 2023 prescription contraception in BC has been FREE, including most oral hormone pills, contraceptive injections, copper and hormonal intrauterine devices, subdermal implants and Plan B!
